Odisha and Chhattisgarh being blessed by continuous Monsoon rains

September 27, 2016 10:34 AM |

Odisha RainsOdisha has been receiving good showers for the last many days. Southwest Monsoon seems to be active over the region in view of successive weather systems.

During last 24 hours, Chhattisgarh has also seen widespread moderate showers. This is also because a trough is extending from Bihar up to Telangana across Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

This ongoing spell of rainfall over Odisha and Chhattisgarh could be attributed to a Monsoon system lingering on over Central India for quite some time now. This system travelled all the way from the Bay of Bengal. At present, this weather system is lying in the form of a low pressure area over Vidarbha and adjoining areas of South Chhattisgarh and Southeast Madhya Pradesh.

Chandabali has received 9 mm of rainfall in a span of 24 hours. Puri and Goplapur both received 19 mm of rainfall. Angul has also received 2 mm of rainfall, Cuttack 9 mm, Pulbani 5 mm and Bhubaneswar 12 mm of rainfall.

Thus, we can say that the state has received widespread light showers with moderate rains over the southern parts of the state.

In Chhattisgarh, Raipur has recorded 49.4 mm of rainfall, Bilaspur 39.3 mm, Pendra 24.3 mm and Durg 21 mm of rainfall.

According to Skymet Weather, rainfall is likely to continue over both the states during next 24 hours. This is because the low pressure area is likely to linger on for about a day or so.

As of September 26, Odisha has received 11% less rains than normal. We have seen about 1002 mm of rainfall in Odisha against the normal of 1129.9 mm, so far this season.

However, Chhattisgarh has received just 2 mm less rains than normal.
