October turning out to be exceptionally hot for Gujarat

October 2015 is turning out to be the hottest for Gujarat in last ten years. Normally during this time of the year – when Monsoon retreats completely – the temperatures in Gujarat start to rise again due to clear skies and bright sunshine. This is why the month of October is also known as the second summer for Gujarat.

This year the day temperature has been recording above normal most of the time in October. For example, the average maximum temperature recorded in the city of Ahmedabad was close to 38°C for a large part of October. The day temperature had almost touched the 40°C mark on October 17 when the maximum recorded 39.2°C.

Scanty rain in September and a strong El Nino ever recorded is said to be the contributing factor for rising temperatures in the state. Not only Gujarat but many parts of the world are bearing the brunt of the El Nino this year.

However, these hot conditions in Gujarat will abate after 48 hours as the dry northwesterly winds will be replaced by moist winds from the Arabian Sea. This will pull down the day temperature in the region.

The change of winds will be due to an induced cyclonic circulation expected to develop in Central Pakistan and Rajasthan.
Though Gujarat will not receive any rain due to the weather system and rain will be confined to Rajasthan only, the change in the wind pattern will give a much needed relief to the people of Gujarat.
