Pre-Monsoon activities picked up pace marginally in Delhi with the commencement of June. On and off thundershowers have been observed in the national capital but the nature has been patchy. These are pre-Monsoon activities are accompanied by sever dust storm and sometimes hail.
The trough at present is situated north of Delhi, running near the foothills of the Himalayas. During this season oscillation of the trough is very common. Therefore, Delhi-NCR and rest of the northern plains will receive one or two good spells of rain and thundershowers during the next 2 days.
At present temperatures are near normal, around 40 degree Celsius. Not much relief is likely during afternoon hours even after the upcoming spell of rain. Only night temperatures could drop marginally bringing pleasant weather conditions for about 10 to 12 hours.
The normal date for the onset of Monsoon in Delhi is June 28. We are in the second week of June and Monsoon has still not reached the Northeastern states in the east and Mumbai in the west. So far, it is lagging behind but we expect that Southwest Monsoon will maintain its normal onset date in Delhi, with an error margin of two to three days. Till then, thundershowers with dust storm activities will be mainly confined to early morning and afternoon hours in Delhi and adjoining areas. Gradually, dust storm activities will reduce.
