November ends on a warm note for Delhi

December as expected has begun with some very heavy rain in Chennai and Tamil Nadu but winter in North India and Delhi is yet to make its presence felt. Though there is a little nip in the air, the temperatures, particularly the minimums in Delhi are marginally above normal.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, November has ended on a warm note for Delhi. The average day and night temperature in the city during the month of November was 28.7°C and 14.6°C. If compared to previous years the temperatures are a notch higher.

For instance, the average minimum temperature in the year 2014 and 2013 had settled at 12.2°C, while in the year 2012 it was 12.23°C. This goes on to show that November in 2015 has been warmer.

This is largely due to lesser number of strong Western Disturbances. The minimum temperatures in the plains drop only when there is good rain or snow in the hills due to WDs and winds change to become northerly. However, that has not happened.

The weather condition in Delhi is going to remain the same for another week as chances of a strong Western Disturbance affecting the hills are few. The night temperature will therefore record marginally above normal. We can expect winter to peak in Delhi after December 15, while the chill can be felt from next week onwards.
