After hailstorm activity on February 7, the Northwest Plains are yet again ready to receive widespread rain and thundershower activities by February 13. These rains will be accompanied by hailstorm and squally winds. However, the only relief is, this time, the intensity and spread of hail, will not be as severe as it was last week.
During the rainy spell of February 7, moisture feed from the Arabian sea was available up to 30,000 ft but this time humid winds from the sea will extend up to 10,000 ft only.
Reasons for rain
A fresh Western Disturbance will start affecting Jammu and Kashmir on February 13 which will induce a Cyclonic Circulation over West Rajasthan and adjoining central Pakistan. This Cyclonic Circulation will move over North Rajasthan and adjoining Haryana and Punjab. Also, a trough will extend from Punjab to Vidarbha, across Delhi and Madhya Pradesh.
Weather timeline
These systems, by the evening of February 13 will first give rains over East Rajasthan, North and West Madhya Pradesh and then move on to cover places like Punjab, Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh by February 14. Hailstorm is also expected at many places during this period.
Intermittent rains are expected to continue till February 15 over Northern Plains. By February 16, the weather system will entirely move towards Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
During this weather activity, there is all possibility of hailstorm damaging Rabi crops which may come as a huge blow to farmers of the region.
