Northwest India to battle high temperature and humidity

June 8, 2015 1:51 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Since last 4 to 5 days there hasn’t been any weather activity in entire northwest India. Moreover, hot and dry winds blowing from the west and northwest direction are making the weather conditions even more uncomfortable in the region.

Due to hot winds, the temperatures in northwest India will continue to rise leading to heatwave conditions in some pockets of Haryana, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh.

At present the day temperatures in the region are settling 2-3 degrees above normal at most places. For instance the Safdarjung Observatory in Delhi saw the maximum settle at 42.5°C on Sunday, which is 2 degrees above the monthly average. Similarly Hisar in Haryana recorded day temperature at 42°C, which is also 2 degrees above normal.

West Uttar Pradesh is hotter with Agra recording 44.5°C as the day temperature on Sunday, which almost amounts to heatwave and is 3 degrees above the monthly normal. In Banda and Bareilly also the maximum settled 3 degrees above normal at 45.6°C and 43.9°C, respectively.

In Rajasthan Barmer was sizzling under a maximum of 44.8°C, which is 3 degrees above normal. While Ajmer was a shade better at 42.7°C.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, further rise in temperature by 1 to 2 degrees in the above mentioned places will lead to heatwave and ‘loo’ conditions.

With the arrival of Monsoon in parts of Peninsular India and the northeast region, the humidity is bound to increase in northwest India, which will make the weather highly uncomfortable.

Meanwhile, a Western Disturbance is likely to approach Jammu and Kashmir by June 9. But its impact will be felt in the plains of northwest India after 4-5 days. Till then there is no respite expected from the heat and humidity in the region.
