Delhi, Haryana and Punjab May Welcome Wet And Chilly Weekend, Image: Jagran.com

Following dry weather across the northern hills, dry and cold winds have been sweeping the slopes and plains of North India. Many parts of Punjab and Haryana have recorded the lowest minimum temperatures today morning. There is no sharp contrast from the averages, yet the mercury level is either normal or below normal by about 1°C. Single-digit minimums have been recorded at a large number of stations and some of these have reached very close to the notional mark of 5°C.

The night temperatures have been on the decline for the last two days. Clear sky, thinning down of pollutant sheet and absence of deep and thick fog have facilitated the easy escape of radiations during the night. The lowest temperatures today morning across Punjab and Haryana were: Amritsar-6.9°C, Ludhiana-7.1°C,  Patiala-7.6°C, Chandigarh-7.9°C, Karnal-6.5°C, Hisar-5.4°C. Along the foothills, few stations having small elevations between 1500-3000 feet have plummeted further. Una, Surendernagar and Mandi have registered lows of 2.6°C, 3°C and 3.3°C respectively.

There is a western disturbance approaching the mountains of Jammu & Kashmir, late tomorrow evening. Prior to that, a broad and closed cyclonic circulation is likely to come up on either side of the borderline of West Rajasthan and also cover parts of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi regions. The wind pattern will change over these parts on 08th and 09th Dec. The cold blast from the slopes of the mountains will get arrested. Some clouds also will come up over these parts.

The coupled effect of the western disturbance and the induced circulation will trigger the first winter rains for some parts of Punjab and Haryana. Even, the national capital may fall within reach of the weather system. The northern half of Punjab and Haryana will remain favourite for these opening winter showers. The most preferred locations will be: Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ropar, Chandigarh, Ambala, Karnal, Panchkula, Yamunanagar and Delhi. These showers will not be heavy but, at least good enough to break the jinx of prolonged dry spell. The weather activity is likely to commence in the late hours of Sunday, 08th Dec and wind up by the next morning on 09th Dec. Irrespective of the spread and intensity of these showers, the wet spell will usher in some twist in the monotonous weather conditions.
