Kashmir Snowfall--kashmir-heliskiing 600

The hills of North India i.e. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand experienced light to moderate rain and snowfall activities due to the presence of a Western Disturbance over northern parts of Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir region and its induced cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan and its nearby areas during the last 24 hours.

In fact, in the last 24 to 36 hours, due to the occurrence of extensive rain and snow, many disruptions such as road blockages, air traffic, power cut etc. have been experienced. Moreover, the snowfall also disrupted normal life and affected the movement of people and transport in Srinagar city and other districts of the valley.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Manali and Dharamshala recorded 22 mm of rain, followed by Lahaul & Spiti 19 mm, Kullu 14.6 mm, Kangra 11.2 mm, Kinnaur 8 mm, Chamba 7 mm, Mandi 4 mm and Shimla 3 mm.

Now, as both the above-mentioned weather systems are moving away east/northeastwards. Hence, after 12 to 18 hours, rain and snow over the northern hills is expected to decrease. However, only the higher reaches will receive spell of rain and snow over all these states.

Again, on January 8, due to approaching of another Western Disturbance, light rain and snow is expected over the Western Himalayas during that time.
