Northeastern states to witness rains for another 48 hrs, intensity to reduce thereafter

Since the last few days, northeastern states that include Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh have been receiving light to moderate rain and thundershowers with few heavy spells and strong winds.

These weather activities can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation persisting over Manipur and its adjoining areas. An anti-cyclone over Bay of Bengal is also feeding moisture to the northeastern region.

We expect the rainfall activity to continue in the region for another 48 hours. The intensity will be more in parts of Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, while Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh will receive scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers.

Thereafter, the intensity of these weather activities will decrease over entire Northeast India, as the cyclonic circulation will weaken. And the anti-cyclone will also move away, due to which moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal will reduce leading to decrease in rainfall activity.

However, isolated light rain with one or two moderate spells may be observed in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Weather in rest of northeastern states will become almost dry with isolated light rain in pockets.

Pre-Monsoon activities are common over the northeastern parts of the country during this period, and the weather is not expected to become completely dry anytime soon.
