Northeast Monsoon to revive once again, good rains forecast for Chennai for the next 10 days

Cyclone Bulbul has faded away after giving ample rains all over the East coast of India. At present, there is no weather system over the Bay of Bengal. Therefore, the normal pattern of Northeasterly winds will take over once again. Thus, we expect Northeast Monsoon to once again pick up pace and Northeasterly winds will gain strength leading to the commencement of rainfall over the Tamil Nadu coast.

After a long gap, Northeast Monsoon is going to revive once again. Although Monsoon rains have been surplus in the month of October, Monsoon has remained subdued in the month of November till now. Today onward we expect isolated rains to commence over coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. The rain intensity might pick up pace tomorrow onward.

The reason behind these rains will be the strong northeasterly winds feeding moisture. Subsequently, Monsoon surge will also get activated. Moreover, a feeble Trough is expected to form over Tamil Nadu coast leading to further increase in rain activities. These rains may continue until November 22 or 23. Places like Puducherry, Karaikal, Thanjavur, Chennai as well as adjoining districts of South coastal Andhra Pradesh are likely to witness these rain activities. However, interior parts of Tamil Nadu might not get any heavy rains. Moderate showers are also anticipated over coastal parts of Tamil Nadu.

Particularly, the city of Chennai may get some good on and off rains for at least the next ten days.

Thus, Monsoon may once again revive over the East coast particularly over Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas.
