Only Rayalaseema has recorded one percent surplus rain and Tamil Nadu and Karaikal is surplus by 3%, whereas all other meteorological divisions have recorded less than average rainfall. Andaman and Nicobar Islands received 3% less rain, coastal Andhra Pradesh is 8% deficient, Telangana 4%, coastal Karnataka 37%, Kerala by 23% and Lakshadweep by 27%.
Weak monsoon conditions are expected to continue over entire South Peninsula for at least next 8 to 10 days. Rainfall during northeast monsoon is very crucial for southern States. These rains help in recharging groundwater and reservoirs.
