November 5, 2018 11:04 AM |

Tamil Nadu 1Northeast Monsoon commenced on November 1 and covered the eastern half of the region initially including Tamil Nadu, adjoining South Interior Karnataka, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh touching Kerala along with the interior Tamil Nadu.

Thereafter, on November 2, Northeast Monsoon advanced over rest of Tamil Nadu, northern parts of Kerala, South Interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema. The only areas that have been left are North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and some areas of Kerala.

The second wave of Northeast Monsoon which came on November 2, was associated with some heavy rains in many pockets wherein Nagapattinam had seen three-digit rains of 141.4 mm, Karaikal 74 mm, Atiramapattinam 63 mm.

However, Northeast Monsoon hasn’t yet aggressively arrived yet over Tamil Nadu and Kerala, but it is expected to catch up soon.

The weather activity is expected to reduce between November 4 and 6 after good rains in the last 24 hours. The reduction of rains for some time and increase in rainfall for the rest is a normal Northeast Monsoon pattern wherein it reduces for a while and then picks up again for some time.

Around the night of November 6 onward, rainfall activity will once again pick up and is expected to become heavy for the southern half of Kerala and Tamil Nadu on November 7.

Thereafter, a break is expected in terms of rains between November 9 and 11, while picking up pace once again thereafter.
