Northeast Monsoon is becoming a little overdue for the state of Tamil Nadu following a similar track of the last three years when the season had witnessed a delayed onset. This year, Northeast Monsoon is expected to arrive on October 27, which is about a week later than the usual time.

The onset is not likely to be with a bang and rainfall activity will remain confined to the south coastal parts of the state of Tamil Nadu. Interiors and the north coastal regions will not see significant rainfall activity. Isolated parts could see moderate showers.

Last year also, Chennai had not seen rains until October 30, which does same the case this year as well. In fact, similar weather was seen in the year 2016 as well wherein the arrival was mild, and rains were less than 5 mm in the initial days.

Now, the south coastal parts will see some good rains during the time of the onset. There is likely to be a system off the coast of Tamil Nadu, but the rainfall will remain mostly off the coast which will further move towards North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast will see some heavy rains.

During the rest of the month, the state of Tamil Nadu will not see significant rains, and such weather activity is only expected in the month of November.
