At present, Tamil Nadu is the only state to record good rain and thundershowers. Northeast Monsoon has been active over the region for the last many days and the state, particularly southern parts have been recording moderate to heavy rains.

In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Karaikal 26 mm, Parangipettai 23 mm, Kanyakumari 13 mm, Thanjavur 8 mm, Atiramapattinam 6 mm, and Palayankottai 5 mm.

The good news is that these rains are likely to continue for few more days, at least till next 48 hours.

According to Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation has been prevailing over the Comorin region and adjoining Sri Lanka. This has kept weather conditions conducive for rains to continue over the state.

Weathermen predict, moderate rains and thundershowers with strong winds at many places over southern parts of Tamil Nadu for the next two days. Isolated pockets like Kanyakumari and Tuticorin are also likely to record some heavy rains.

However, northern parts of the state would settle with light rains only. The state capital of Chennai would also see light rains only.

Northeast Monsoon is the main rainfall season for the state wherein it records over 50% of its annual rainfall.

Being a rain shadow region, Tamil Nadu does not record much rains during the four-month long Southwest Monsoon.
