Northeast Monsoon rains in Bengaluru to begin anytime now, to stay for next 24 hours

Northeast Monsoon continues to be in active phase, triggering widespread rainfall across Peninsular India. Bengaluru too has been recording rains during the last 2-3 days, with showers picking up pace on Sunday. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, the state capital recorded 6.9 mm of rains.

These rains can be attributed to the low pressure area over Southeast Arabian Sea, off Kerala and Karnataka coast. The system is likely to get more marked and induce a depression in the next 12 hours. Apart from this, an easterly wave is seen over Southwest Bay of Bengal off the Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu coast.

With the both systems prevailing, we can expect more rains in Bengaluru today as well as tomorrow. At present, rain bearing clouds have been hovering over the city, with showers to begin anytime soon.

According to weathermen at Skymet Weather, intermittent light to moderate rains and thundershowers would continue throughout the day, with one or two intense rains. Chances of rains would be more during the latter part of the day.

The ongoing rains have paved way for fairly pleasant weather conditions with cool breeze. Day temperatures would continue to be around 23-24 degree Celsius, while night temperatures would be around 17-18 degree Celsius.

December is not a rainy month for Bengaluru, which records average rainfall of just 15.7 mm. However, this December has started a rainy start and with more rains in offing, city is likely to surpass the normal average rains with ease.

In November, Bengaluru had recorded 36 mm against the average of 48.9 mm.
