Northeast Monsoon has finally made an onset over Kerala and adjoining states on October 27. With the commencement, God’s own state has been lashed with light to moderate rain with few isolated heavy spells.

In the span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Friday, Kochi witnessed three digit heavy rains to the tune of 148.6 mm. In the same span of time, Palakkad witnessed moderate intensity rain to the tune of 36 mm. Meanwhile, Kozhikode recorded 11.8 mm of rain, Punalur 5.6 mm, Alapuzha 4 mm, Kottayam 3.8 mm and Thiruvananthapuram 0.9 mm of rain.
The rainfall activity can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which persists over the south-central Bay of Bengal and the trough which is extending from the southeast Bay of Bengal to east central Arabian Sea across Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the south-west Bay of Bengal.

As per Weathermen at Skymet Weather, the intensity of rain will be comparatively low during the next 24 to 48 hours, however, light to moderate with isolated heavy spells may last the state.
After 48 hours, the rain intensity may gradually increase once again. As the easterlies are strengthening hence the weather will be comfortable and the sky conditions will be mainly cloudy.
