Northeast Monsoon has finally entered its last leg and officially ends on December 31. The Monsoon has already started retreating from the northern parts of Peninsular India.

Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema have been witnessing dry weather conditions and no rain activity has been recorded over these places during last one week.

At present, rains are only confined to South Coastal Tamil Nadu and South Kerala. This activity can be attributed to the trough of low marked over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas.

Rains have been patchy in nature and intensity was mostly light with few moderate spells. This spell of rain will not be able to contribute much towards the Northeast Monsoon.

No fresh weather system is expected to affect the region during the remaining three days of the season. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, only subdued rain activity will be witnessed during next few days over extreme southern coastal parts of the region.

Remaining parts of Peninsular India will continue with mainly dry weather conditions.

Northeast Monsoon, which spans from October till December, has done fairly well this year in all the sub-divisions, particularly over Tamil Nadu.

For the overall season from October 1 till December 23, Tamil Nadu has recorded 669.7 mm of rain against the normal rains of 427.7 mm. With this, state has witnessed 57% of excess rains so far.
