Good Chennai rains bring pleasant weather, more in offing

Northeast Monsoon continues to be vigorous over most parts of Coastal Tamil Nadu for several days now. In fact, rains have now picked up pace over interior parts of Tamil Nadu during the last 24 hours.

All thanks to the persistent low-pressure area over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu for the last one week. However, the system has now weakened and is now seen as a trough of low only.

In the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Karaikal recorded 113 mm of rain, Cuddalore 88 mm, Parangepettai 70 mm and Chennai 20 mm.

According to weathermen, we do not see any decrease in the rainfall activity during the 24 hours as well. The intensity of rains will be or over North Coastal Tamil Nadu as compared to South Coastal areas. Places such as Vellore Kancheepuram, Chennai may some good showers. One or two areas may even record extremely heavy rainfall.

Interior areas may record light to moderate rains but coastal places including Chennai will continue with moderate to heavy showers.

Gusty winds along with moderate lightning and thunderstorms are also expected to lash these areas. Thereafter, these ongoing spell is likely to reduce November 7 onwards but light to moderate rains cannot be ruled out.
