The state of Kerala has been witnessing a few good spells of rain for the past few days. In fact, a few heavy spells of rains have also been lashing God’s Own Country during the same time frame. The last 24 hours were also similar and some heavy spells of rain were also seen over the state.
In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Kottayam recorded a whopping 54 mm of rainfall followed by Kochi at 22 mm, Kozhikode 18 mm, Alappuzha 7 mm, and Palayankottai 1 mm. Light rains have also been observed over other parts of Kerala including Karipur, and Thiruvananthapuram.

These rainfall activities have been attributed to the presence of multiple weather systems. One of them is a cyclonic circulation persisting over Sri Lanka and adjoining Gulf of Mannar. Along with this, another cyclonic circulation over Lakshadweep and adjoining area also persists
Not only this, a trough is extending between these two weather systems across Southern tip of Peninsula.

In the wake of these persisting weather features, moderate rains with one or two heavy spells are expected to continue over southern districts of the state of Kerala. However, northern parts of the state will receive scattered light to moderate rains.
Cities including Kottayam, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha are likely to see good rains. Meanwhile, Kannur, Kozhikode will only be able to see light rains during the same period.
