While the pan-India rainfall figures during the post-Monsoon period (from October to December) recorded a deficit of 23%, the performance of Northeast Monsoon over Peninsular India has been impressive. Four out of five sub-divisions in the region have recorded excess rainfall during Northeast Monsoon 2015.
Rayalaseema, south-interior Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu observed above normal rains, whereas coastal Andhra Pradesh (AP) remained the only sub-division to record a deficit of 16%. In coastal AP, Nellore was the only place which recorded excess rainfall. All the other districts in the region ended up with a deficit settling between 25 to 50%.
The table below shows the actual and normal Northeast Monsoon rainfall figures for five sub-divisions in Peninsular India. The deviation from normal is also listed here:
In south-interior Karnataka, Davangere and Bellary were the only districts that recorded below normal rains during Northeast Monsoon this year. Meanwhile in Rayalaseema, Kurnool district remained deficient by 56%.
Entire Tamil Nadu recorded normal to excess rainfall this year during Northeast Monsoon. In Kerala too, normal to above normal rains were observed in all the districts.
