Many Northeast sates especially Assam has been receiving good rainfall activities since the last many days. In fact, Assam has been reeling under flood like situation since last many days. The northeastern state of Sikkim has received heavy rainfall activities at many places while Arunachal Pradesh received moderate to heavy rains in the last 24 hours. The other states of Northeast India, also experienced light to moderate rains and thundershowers at many places during the last couple of days.
Presently, a branch of the eastern end of Monsoon Trough is passing across sub-Himalayan West Bengal to Nagaland across Assam and Meghalaya. Simultaneously, a Western Disturbance is moving across Tibet region. Also, moist winds are continuing across Bay of Bengal over to these states. Under these conditions the Southeast Monsoon will be vigorous over Sikkim, Lower Assam and Meghalaya during the next 36 to 48 hours.
During the same period, Monsoon will be active over other states. Hence, moderate rainfall conditions are likely at many places during the next 36 to 48 hours.
Places like Guwahati, Goalpara, Dhubri, Majbat, Sonitpur, Malegoan, Pasighat, Cherrapunji, Gangtok, etc will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall activities.
Due to occurrence of these rains, the water level in Brahmaputra river and its catchment areas will increase in the next few days. Flood like situation might worsen hereafter.
