During the Southwest Monsoon season, the Northeast India region witnesses good Monsoon rains. But the Monsoon of 2016 has not been good in terms of rainfall for the region as the prolonged spells of heavy Monsoon rains are missing.
In fact, as on September 03, 2016 the region comprising Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura is rainfall deficient by 22% whereas the rest of the states like Assam and Meghalaya is rainfall deficient by 33%. It is only Arunachal Pradesh which is close to normal at 9% rainfall deficient.
At present, a weather system as a cyclonic circulation can be seen over North Bay of Bengal. This weather system is already providing rain over Northeast India including Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. These rains are of moderate intensity with heavy spells at few places.
During the month of August, all of the Northeast states have recorded deficient rainfall. But the good news is that the good rains that will lash the entire Northeast states will help to bring down the deficiency. By the end of this week we may even see few regions' rainfall deficiency coming to normal.
