Northeast India to receive flooding rains as Roanu makes landfall

Assam rainsCyclonic storm Roanu is gaining strength continuously and is likely to intensify into a Severe Cyclonic storm within next 48 hours. It is influencing weather conditions in Northeast India to a great extent and this part of the country will be under successive spells of heavy rain during next few days. Flooding rains are likely in some places.

During last 24 hours, rainfall was widespread but not very heavy. However, on May 17 Probable cyclonic storm had brought 245 mm rain in Cherrapunji. Torrential rains in Assam had also triggered landslides.

Here’s a look at the rainfall figures recorded in Northeast India during last 24 hours:

Rain in Northeast India

Moisture incursion is taking place from the Bay of Bengal, enhancing rainfall activity over this region. Varying intensity of rainfall will be witnessed in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur as the system makes landfall somewhere in Bangladesh between May 21 and 22.
