Northeast India to observe a rainy week; Odisha to remain hottest in the country

The spell of rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir continues and according to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, remnants of the previous Western Disturbance brought light rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir. There was no weather activity in terms of precipitation in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Weather in North India

According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India the system has cleared up but gave some rain in the higher reaches. Yesterday Kupwara received 3 mm of rain, Gulmarg 2.4 mm and Srinagar 1 mm of rain. Banihal and Batote received traces of rain.

Another Western Disturbance followed in quick succession and it has been raining in Jammu and Srinagar since morning today. At present Leh and Thoise are observing cloudy skies. Chandigarh is also overcast since morning and the high clouds will bring some rain during late afternoon hours. The entire day will remain cloudy to overcast in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi/NCR.

Day temperature has dropped in Delhi with Safdarjung Observatory recording 31.8⁰C as maximum yesterday. No significant rise or drop is expected in the next 24 hours.

A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to affect weather in North India from the 6th of March. The system will bring another spell of light rain and snow in Jammu & Kashmir and the adjoining foothills. Plains of North India including Punjab, Haryana and Delhi will receive light rain on the 7th. The weather will clear up by the next day and sunshine will return over the plains.

Weather in Northeast India

The Northeastern states will observe a rainy week. Yesterday rain was widespread with isolated places receiving good amounts of rain. Cherrapunji, the second wettest place on the earth, received 54.6 mm of rain. Agartala and Gangtok received 12 mm of rain while, places like Tejpur, Guwahati, Kohima, Shillong and Jorhat received less than 10 mm of rain. Scattered to widespread rain will continue this  entire week.

Day temperatures have been in low-thirties in this part of the country, except for few places like Dibrugarh at 28⁰C.

Weather in Rest of India

Odisha, at present is the hottest state with Titlagarh and Sambalpur recording 41.5⁰C and 40.9⁰C as maximums respectively. Temperatures have dropped in the hottest belt of Andhra Pradesh with Anantapur recording 39.8⁰C, Tripura 38.5⁰C and Kurnool 40.3⁰C.

The west coast of Kerala in South India received some rain yesterday. Karwar recorded 5.8 mm of rain while, Trivandrum and Kochi received traces of rain. The next 48 hours will remain rainy in this region.
