This year onset of Monsoon in India was delayed by 7 days and subsequently Monsoon over Northeast India made its delayed onset on June 14.
The ‘Seven sister States’ that consist of NMMT (Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura) and Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh are famous for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall during Southwest Monsoon. The monthly average rainfall recorded is more than 1000 mm for most of the states.
However, despite good rainfall in these states, a 47% deficiency in rainfall has been observed in NMMT region and 35% over rest of northeastern states till June 26.
During last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, rainfall recorded in most parts of Northeast India is displayed in the table below:
As reiterated by Skymet Weather, Northeast India will get somewhat lesser rainfall as compared to the other parts of the country. This rain deficiency will further increase during next 3 to 4 days as Monsoon is expected to remain subdued over Northeastern states till July 1.
From July 2, it is expected that these rain activities will pick up pace. Thereafter, some heavy to extremely heavy spells are expected in some parts of northeastern states. Monsoon forecast for July and August for the country is above normal. It is expected that good rains will continue during these 2 months. But chances of surplus rain over Northeast India are less.
