Northeast India is famous for torrential rain during monsoon season. Though on and off good rains have occurred over theses states in the last few days but still entire Northeast India is deficient in terms of rainfall.
Assam and Meghalaya are rain deficient by 38%. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura states are rain deficient by 35%. It is only Arunachal Pradesh that is somewhat better with 13% rain deficient.
Now as the east end of Monsoon trough is also shift along the foothills, therefore we expect that heavy rains will commence over Assam Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh and it is expected to continue till July 19. With a short break of 1-2 days, the intensity may increase over Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Moderate to heavy rain will also occur over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura but intensity will be low in comparison to northern regions.
Few heavy to extremely heavy spells are expected over these areas. Particularly over Assam that is very susceptible in terms of flooding. The risk of flooding is huge due to these heavy rains and most of the rivers and tributaries will flow above the danger level mark.
We expect that many areas various districts of Assam like Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Sonitpur and Dhemaji may get affected due to flooding.
