Northern parts of the country including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and North Rajasthan are eagerly waiting for some rain. Delhi witnessed moderate rain on July 1st.
Since then, weather of Northern Plains including Delhi and NCR has been hot and very humid. Discomfort index is very high. Reason for these sultry conditions can be attributed to the humid winds from the Bay of Bengal and dry weather conditions over North India.
Axis of monsoon trough is south of its normal position over central parts of the country. Central India is receiving heavy showers since last many days with northern parts of the country remaining dry and hot. The low-pressure area which travelled from Odisha to Gujarat and kept the axis of monsoon trough over Central India, has degenerated now. Humid winds from Arabian Sea as well as the Bay of Bengal Bengal have already commenced over northern plains.
The western end of axis of monsoon trough will also travel to North leading to commencement of rain over Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, North Rajasthan and Delhi and NCR. These rain activities are expected to continue until July 10 or 11.
Thereafter, both the intensity and spread will decrease. Another good spell is anticipated on July 13 and 14. These upcoming rains will certainly decrease the temperature and give long awaited relief.
