North East to receive light to moderate rain on February 26-27

North East India Rain

Light to moderate rain is expected in parts of northeast India on February 26 and 27. The region will experience fairly widespread rain towards the end of the month. Interestingly, northeast India has received less than normal rain this month. The two day rain expected towards the end of February will overcome the deficit to some extent.

Rainfall at most places in the region fell short of the normal rainfall mark for February. With only four days to go before the month ends, Guwahati has experienced only 2.3 mm against a normal of 22.3 mm. Similarly, Tezpur has received only 1.2 mm rainfall against a normal of 22 mm. Dibrugarh too has experienced just 22 mm rainfall against a normal of 59 mm.

North East India generally remains humid and the absence of rain has also pushed day temperatures in the region. Day temperature in Tezpur was recorded at 30.6°C, in Guwahati at 30°C and in Dibrugarh at 30°C. Due to humid conditions, even day temperatures of around 30°C start to take a toll on residents as well visitors. When the sun is out, humidity combines with the heat of the sun thereby causing discomfort to people.

The next spell of rain which is expected on February 26 and 27 will surely bring down day temperatures in the region for a while. But if and when the sun comes out, increased humidity will cause more discomfort to localities.
