Tourists resorts of the North Indian hills witness snowfall activities mostly during the month of December. So much so that destinations including Srinagar, Patnitop, Shimla, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Manali, Nainital, Mussoorie and Kufri witness snow days for long giving tourists the chance to witness white blanketed cities.
This time, snowfall made an appearance quite early over the hilly regions. About a week ago, almost all these tourist resorts particularly Srinagar and Shimla did witness snow. If earlier records are to be considered, snowfall does not make an appearance this early.

Mostly, snow days make their appearance over the hills during Christmas or New Year giving tourists the opportunity to enjoy a white holiday season. However, there are times when snowfall does not occur during this time
This year, the chances of a white Christmas look quite bleak. Currently, no active Western Disturbance is in the vicinity of the Indian Landmass. Two feeble Western Disturbances are expected to affect the Western Himalayas during the next one week, but they are not strong enough and will not result in any significant rain and snow over the mid reaches of the hills of North India.
Rainfall activity may be seen over some parts of these tourist resorts, but the possibility of snowfall is quite unlikely. Thus, tourists who are planning to take a trip to the hills this long weekend may be disappointed in terms of snowfall. However, the wintry and festive will be there to welcome them with open arms.
