It’s that time of the year when tourists throng Srinagar and Dal Lake to bring back the memories of the famous Kahwa, snow games and tales of bone-chilling cold.
It is the season when a thick white blanket covers trees and roads in Srinagar.
However, that white blanket is missing from the scene.
SNOW is missing from Srinagar.
After giving a pass to the Christmas, snowfall is likely to have a no-show in Srinagar at the end of this year and the beginning of the New Year, according to Skymet Meteorology Division in India. The capital city of Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing cold, totally dry weather and people eagerly waiting for the snowfall which is unusual for December.
Dal Lake Frozen due to below freezing temperatures
While the mercury has been dipping for last few days, it dipped a little more on Saturday. The minimum temperature of -5.6°C on 27th December was the lowest in last four years in the summer city of Jammu and Kashmir.

During the past few days, the city has been observing below normal minimums that have finally resulted in frozen Dal Lake and other water bodies. The current situation is likely to stay in Srinagar with minimum temperatures settling between -4°C and -5°C.
