No respite from the heat over Ahmedabad, Rajkot in Gujarat

Gujarat has witnessed severe heatwave conditions in the month of April. To such an extent that the mercury levels reached 45 degree-mark. Thereafter, the cool Southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea brought some respite to the Gujaratis from the sweltering heat in May. But rain and thundershowers stayed away from the state.

As of now, the weather conditions are bit bearable over the state. All thanks to few rainy spells in the last 24 hours. Many districts of Gujarat including its capital city Gandhinagar received scattered light to moderate rains. Other regions that have recorded rainfall include Ahmedabad, Baroda, Deesa, Rajkot and Vidyanagar.

Along with the state of Gujarat, Rajasthan also observed moderate to heavy rains in the last 24 hours. These showers can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which was over Southwest Rajasthan and adjoining Pakistan. A feeble trough was also extending from this system up to East Gujarat. Now these systems have weakened, but remnants of the system can still give some isolated thundery activities over the parts of the state.

In wake of these rains taking back seat, temperatures that are presently settling near normal will see a gradual rise in the next 48 hours and may settle 2 to 3°C above normal. So, not much relief is expected from the prevailing heat conditions over the state.
