No respite from rising mercury in Pune

Weather in PunePune, generally known for its pleasant weather is sweltering under intense heat for the last few days. In absence of any significant weather activity, maximum temperatures have been settling above the normal average of 37.2°C. However, mornings and nights are still pleasant due to its geographical features.

Pune has not witnessed a single spell of good rain in the last few days and has recorded only 4 mm of rain so far against the monthly average of 40 mm.

As per the latest forecast by Skymet, there is no respite expected in the city from the scorching heat and dry spell for the next three days. Thereafter, we can expect some relief in form of rain due to a cyclonic circulation forming over Madhya Maharashtra.

In last one week, the day temperature in the city has twice settled above 40°C. Let us have a look at the maximum temperatures in Pune since May 1.

In the last one decade, there has only been three occasions when the city has observed day temperature settle above 41°C. The all-time high maximum for the city is 43.3°C.

Pune is located at an elevation of 1840 ft on the leeward side of the Western Ghats, with a mountainous terrain. The city therefore enjoys pleasant weather throughout the year.
