Heatwave to cover more parts of North and Central India

Heatwave conditions have been ruling parts of India from quite a long time. Most of the central and northwest and East India has been enveloped under intense summer heat. Relief from the prevailing intense summer heat stayed far away that even rose the mercury levels to several notches.

At present also, few states of the country are engulfed under heatwave conditions. Regions like interiorOdisha, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha in Maharashtra are witnessing heatwave conditions. Temperatures have been on a rising trend since the month of May started.

In fact, on Monday too, Bilaspur inChhattisgarhobserved a scorching 49.2°C which was an all-time high ever recorded in the month of May. Following somewhat the suit is Titlagarh in Odisha that has seen the mercury soaring and settling at 47°C which is 3 degrees above the normal. Chandrapur in Vidarbha region ofMaharashtrais also reeling under intense summer heat with daytime high as sizzling as 46.6°C.

Though the interior parts of Odisha did witness isolated light rains but this did not bring much relief from the ongoing heatwave conditions as these pre-Monsoon activities true to their nature occur usually during late afternoon and evening hours and by then, the temperatures have already scaled up.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for the prevailing heatwave conditions can be attributed to the absence of any weather activity. Moreover, these areas are in the mid-latitudes where the sun rays are almost perpendicular to the Earth. Due to both the aforesaid reasons, the temperatures across these regions shot up unusually.

As of now, the heatwave conditions across these regions is likely to continue for another 2-3 days. Moreover, the area of the heatwave will also increase covering interior parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha and will also cover parts ofMadhya Pradeshas well.

Temperatures across the northwest plains also start rising and thus, heatwave-like conditions is likely to start prevailing in parts of WestRajasthanalso including parts of North Madhya Pradesh andTelanganaas well.
