No relief in sight from heat wave in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh

April and May are the pre-Monsoon months for India, where in most parts of the country witness weather activities in the form of thunderstorm and dust storm followed by precipitation. However during this time, Gujarat and its adjoining areas of West Madhya Pradesh are the two core pockets to reel under heat wave like conditions persistently. In fact, most places in these areas witness their day temperatures above 40˚C.

Going by the pattern, heat wave conditions have been prevailing over almost all the places in Gujarat and few places in West Madhya Pradesh since the last 2 weeks.

In Gujarat, even the coastal stations are battling high temperatures as well as humidity. Kandla recorded its highest maximum for the season on April 7 at 43.8˚C. Rest places in Gujarat are also witnessing maximum temperatures above 40˚C.

On Monday, Ahmedabad recorded its day temperature at 41.5˚C, followed by Surendranagar 41.3˚C, Amreli 41.3˚C, Rajkot 41.3˚C, and Kandla 40.7˚C.

Moreover, the situation is more intense in Madhya Pradesh, particularly in the city of Khargone that has been observing highest maximum temperatures in entire India since March 24.

Yesterday also, it recorded day temperature at 44.5˚C. In the absence of any weather system, winds control heat wave conditions in these areas. Both these states witness dry and hot winds blowing from either Rajasthan or Pakistan and therefore, weather remains dry and temperatures keep increasing.

Thus, in such conditions no relief is observed in quick succession and these spells of heat wave are usually prolonged ones. Now in the coming days also, we expect similar weather conditions to prevail. In the absence of any significant weather systems and dry and hot winds, weather conditions in both Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh will remain under the grip of heat wave. This will ultimately results in high maximum temperatures over the region.
