The month of July began on a rainy note for Madhya Pradesh by bringing a series of weather systems affecting the state. These rains were strong enough to cause flooding rains over most parts of the state, with the eastern half of the state bearing more brunt of the deluge causing showers.
In general, also, East Madhya Pradesh receives more rains in contrast with the amount of rainfall West Madhya Pradesh gets. During the last day also, scattered rains were observed by the entire state with East Madhya Pradesh receiving more rains.
In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Nowgong recorded 120 mm of rains, Nowgong 90 mm, Damoh 79 mm, Shajapur 72 mm, Satna 63 mm, Pachmarhi 56 mm, Guna 54 mm, Sheopur 52 mm, Khajuraho 45 mm, Raisen 28 mm, Rewa 18 mm, Sagar 13 mm, Sidhi 11 mm, and Bhopal recorded 5 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these rains was the low-pressure area over Northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining region. This system moved westwards and gave good Monsoon rains over the state that aggravated the flood situation.
As of now, a fresh low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal. This system would also follow the same track and would move westward that would once again give heavy to very heavy rains over parts of East Madhya Pradesh. However, parts of West Madhya Pradesh would also receive light to moderate rains during the next two days.
July 22 onwards, we expect moderate to heavy showers over Jabalpur, Sheopur, Guna, Morena, Gwalior, Damoh, Umaria, Rewa, Ujjain, Satna, and Sagar. Hence, no relief can be anticipated from the ongoing flooding like situation over most parts of the state. On the other hand, Bhopal and Indore would receive light spells.
These rains would continue until July 24 and thereafter, the rain belt would shift towards the Indo-Gangetic plains, leading to a reduction in rains over Madhya Pradesh.
