During the last 24 hours, thunderstorm and thundershower activities occurred at a few places in Vidarbha and at isolated places in Marathwada. While Gondia received 90 mm of rains, Brahmpuri received 2 mm and Parbhani recorded 1 mm of rain.
Despite these rains, heat wave conditions persisted in many parts of Vidarbha as the temperature recorded 45 degrees Celsius or more. Weather of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada also remained hot. Isolated pockets of Marathwada witnessed heat wave conditions. Mumbai and adjoining coastal districts of Maharashtra remained very warm and sultry.
Now, we don’t expect any significant weather activity in Maharashtra for the next 2 to 3 days. Heat wave will continue to prevail in many parts of Vidarbha, in few pockets of Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra. Temperatures are expected to remain above normal.
Relief from present weather conditions will come in the form of isolated thundery activities which may occur over eastern parts of Vidarbha as a north-south trough is passing through Telangana which is in the vicinity of Vidarbha. Isolated light rain or thunderstorm is also possible over Konkan and Goa. Places like Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri may receive one or two short spells of rain. Mumbai and its adjoining areas are expected to get light to very light rain or thunderstorm activity between May 24 and 26.
This rainfall activity will however be highly localized and cover a small area. Therefore, we do not expect any significant relief from the ongoing hot weather conditions.
So, we can say that Mumbai as well as other parts of the state will have to wait for good pre-Monsoon activities until the end of May.
