Several parts of North India remained under the grip of dense fog, forcing schools to remain shuts in parts of Uttar Pradesh till 14th January. While Delhi was engulfed in the thick cover of fog as Palam witnessed zero visibility till 8 am. Other parts in Delhi such as Dwarka, Indirapuram, Model Town and Noida Expressway also witnessed dense fog on Tuesday morning. Situation, however, improved for Bangalore that witnessed visibility of 500 meters today as against the visibility of 100 meters due to very dense fog , yesterday.
Fog in other parts of India
While people in Amritsar and Chandigarh woke up to a foggy morning with visibility dropping to nil due to very dense fog, Lohri celebration in the evening, along with the bonfire, is expected to give them some warmth against the persisting cold weather.
Agra, Gorakhpur and Gwalior too reeled under the thick cover of fog as visibility dropped to nil in these parts. A thick cover of fog was observed in Lucknow where visibility reduced to 200 meters, Ranchi 200 meters, Jaipur 200 meters and Agartala 300 meters.
Shallow fog kept its presence felt in Gaya with 400 meters of visibility, Patna 800 meters and Varanasi 800 meters.
Fog and its impact on air and rail traffic
With 6 cancellations and 9 delays in flight schedule at Palam airport, fog did disrupt normal life. 83 trains were forced to run behind schedule due to a thick cover of fog in several parts of India.
Trains such as Saryuyamuna Express was delayed by 13 hours, Yuva express 13 hours, Bhusaval-H.Nizamuddin Gondwana SF Express 13 hours and Purvottar express connecting New Delhi to Guhawati was delayed by 10 hours.
