No relief for Northwest India including Delhi from scorching heat

April 3, 2022 11:53 AM |

Month of March has witnessed many records in terms of high temperature. March 2022 recorded highest average of maximum temperature over India in last 121 years. Delhi also witnessed fourth warmest march in terms of average maximum temperature. Month of March has witnessed scanty rainfall over Northwest India, however, there was no rain over Delhi NCR.

We do not expect any pre monsoon activity during the first half of April over Northwest India including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan. Feeble Western Disturbances may approach Western Himalayas, but they will not be capable of giving any significant weather activity over the hills. Dry winds from Balochistan, central Pakistan and Thar desert of Rajasthan will continue over Northwest India leading to heat wave to severe heat wave conditions.

Pre monsoon activities such as thunderstorm, dust storm, thundershowers accompanied with strong winds usually drop the temperatures during pre-monsoon season of April and May. These activities are absent until now. Conditions are not favourable for occurrence of these weather activities until first half of April. Therefore, we do not expect any significant relief from ongoing hot weather conditions over Northwest India until April 15. First half of April may also make some records for maximum and minimum temperatures.
