At present the entire Northeast India is rain deficient. For instance Arunachal Pradesh is rainfall deficient by 15%, Assam & Meghalaya are rainfall deficient by 34% and rainfall deficiency of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura region is 24%.
At present there is no significant weather system over the entire region. The Monsoon trough is at present south of the area and the formation of low pressure area is also far off, close to west central Bay of Bengal.
Moist but weak southwesterly winds are prevailing over the region that doesn’t hold enough moisture to bring in rains for the region. No significant rain is expected over the region in next 48-72 hours.
In the last 24 hours, light to moderate rains in isolated places over Nagaland did happen and rest of the areas received only light rainfall. Rainfall can be tagged as negligible rains.
But there may be some rainfall in sight for the region as the Monsoon trough is expected to shift north towards the foothills of Himalayas. This would increase the rainfall activities by the end of August and September first week.
