The month of November usually brings much rejoice among Chennaites. This is because that the month of November is rainiest from Chennai. The average monthly rainfall in the month of November over Chennai is 407.4 mm.

But more than two-third of the month has passed and only scanty rain was witnessed over the city of Chennai. And these rains happened at the beginning of the month. At that time the rains happened due to depression in Bay of Bengal which was moving towards Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. As the system dissipated, it gave decent showers over Chennai.

Since then weather has been unusually dry. Even though the maximum and minimum temperatures were near normal but lack of rain has been affecting the life of common man.

This year the Southwest Monsoon was good for Tamil Nadu. But after the Southwest Monsoon bid farewell, from October 1 till November 16 Tamil Nadu has received 68% less rainfall than normal.

We do not expect any rain activity over Chennai during rest of November as no significant weather system is developing. Moreover, the easterly wave is also weak since last few days and the trough of low is running along the equatorial Indian Ocean from Lakshadweep to South Andaman Sea.

Though some rainfall is happening over south Tamil Nadu but central and Northern Tamil Nadu including Chennai is dry.
