As the country moves forward in to mid-March to welcome the summer months, pre-Monsoon shower across various places have started to intensify. But few areas of Tamil Nadu have been witnessing extremely heavy showers as a reminder of the impending Monsoon rains.
In the span of 24 hours from 08:30am on Tuesday, many parts of interior Tamil Nadu especially the hills of Nilgiri have received heavy to very heavy rainfall.
This pre-Monsoon rainfall are a result of a cyclonic circulation which is seen over North Interior Karnataka and adjoining areas. A trough is also extending from this system up to Lakshadweep region.
With the combination of both these weather systems over the region, rains occurred in parts of Nilgiri hills of Tamil Nadu. Even parts of Kerala and Karnataka witnessed good rainfall. These rains are likely to continue today as well as tomorrow over the Nilgiri hills.
Post 24 hours, the rainfall intensity will reduce significantly and on & off light rains are likely to continue. After this rainy activity, temperatures are likely to shoot up over the region.
