December 22, 2013 4:50 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Icy winds are expected to start blowing in Delhi from Monday due to the recent snowfall and rain in the hills of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh in the last 24 hours. Fairly widespread snowfall has been reported from the higher reaches which could turn winter in India severe.

From Sunday onwards, the southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal will start diminishing from the region and Northerly winds will resume with the passage of the Western Disturbance over Jammu & Kashmir towards northeast direction.

The above normal night temperatures in North India would fall at least by 4 to 6 degrees in the next two days. Day temperatures that are below normal by up to 7 degrees in Jammu & Kashmir and the northwest plains would rise at least by 5 degrees. But icy winds will keep the weather cold here.

Fog conditions in North India would improve in the next two days due to the absence of moist winds. Flight operations will not be affected by the fog in Delhi that saw visibility drop to 350 meters on Sunday morning.
