New York to witness snow on first day of spring

March 20, 2015 5:48 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Spring season has officially commenced in US from Friday but the weather does not indicate the same. Warm air from south combined with cold winds from North is expected to cause widespread heavy snow and rain over the parts of Northeast US on the first day of spring itself.

The snow is likely to lash Philadelphia first and then extend further to cover Harrisburg, New York, Washington DC, Pittsburgh and Boston.

As per meteorologists, we can expect snow ranging from three to six inches, making roads slushy and slippery. Extremely cold conditions will prevail over the region, forcing people to be wrapped up in layers of clothes.

Temperatures will be around 34°F or 35°F in morning hours but as the snowfall commences during the day, temperatures will dip and settle around freezing levels.

Local authorities have already issued warnings against inclement weather and poor visibility conditions, which will result in long travel delays. It is also expected to impact air traffic.

According to latest forecast by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, people will get a brief respite on Saturday, continuing over the weekend thereafter.
