As cold day and foggy conditions remain unabated in the Chandigarh, New Year’s Eve and the first day of the year is expected to be extremely cold and foggy for the residents of Chandigarh.
Due to a thick blanket of fog and low maximum temperatures, the city was one of the coldest in the region on Thursday. At a maximum temperature of 11°C on 25th December, Chandigarh was also colder than the popular hill station, Shimla that recorded a maximum of 13.2°C.
Other places in Punjab like Amritsar recorded a maximum of 11.9°C and Ludhiana recorded a maximum temperature of 13°C on the same day.
The maximum temperature of Chandigarh recorded on Thursday was 10 degrees below normal.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, with diurnal variation reducing sharply, Chandigarh is likely to witness an extremely cold start to the year 2015.
While on an average the maximum temperature for the city hovers around 22°C and minimum temperature settles around 6.7°C, the drop of diurnal variation to 6°C on Thursday indicates of a cold week ahead.
Fog disrupts life in Plains
The thick cover of fog grips entire North India as visibility in Delhi has led to delays and cancellation of flights and trains. Very dense fog was also reported in the city of Amritsar. Visibility in Patna was reduced to 100 meters only. Allahabad reported visibility at 800 meters, Varanasi at 600 meters, and Chandigarh at 500 meters.
