After reeling under severe cold conditions for about a week preceding New Year, both the northern states of Punjab and Haryana are soon to receive rains anytime now.
A fresh Western Disturbance has approached the Western Himalayas. In fact, yet another Western Disturbance will soon follow, only to magnify the weather activities. The present Western Disturbance has induced a Cyclonic Circulation over the northern parts of Rajasthan. Due to this system, already a dense cloud cover is being seen over multiple areas of Punjab and Haryana.
Fairly widespread rain and thundershower is likely to be seen over the plains of North India including that of Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana beginning today. Few isolated heavy spells are also expected. These rains are likely to continue over the region for at least a week.
Patchy rains may be seen over the region today. Rains may further increase on January 2, and on and off showers are expected to continue until January 3. Thereafter, the rain belt will shift towards the east and the weather will clear up.
These rains will lead to increased humidity over the region leading to dense fog formation in the morning hours on January 4 and 5.
