North India will stay rain free on the new year eve. Plains of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and Chandigarh will witness mostly partly cloudy sky without any threat of rain . However, mercury is going to drop below normal, remaining in single digit across the region and possibly dropping below 5 degree at many places including the national capital Delhi.

Icy winds, misty sky and fog in patches is going to be the hallmark of new year celebrations. Also, most popular resorts in the hills like Srinagar, Manali, Shimla, Mussorie, Nainital, Dalhousie, Dharamsala and Kasauli will have to wait for snowfall for few more days, probably on 04th & 5th Jan 2022. Mid and higher reaches like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Keylong and Mukteshwar may witness light snowfall on the new year.

Western disturbance, which post Christmas, dropped snow in the hills and rain in the plains of North India is making its way for central and eastern parts of the country. Weather conditions are likely to clear from 29th Dec onward and stay good till 03rdJan 2022. Thereafter, another active western disturbance is expected to arrive. This weather system will have good spread of rain and thundershowers with hailstorm at few places in the plains and moderate snow across the entire range of mountains of north India.

Christmas earlier  and now New Year might  miss the charm of white blanket across the hills, but whisper of snow will surely keep its promise, for almost all the attractive tourist destinations. Plains and hills of North India can expect simultaneous clash of wet weather between 04th and 06thJan2022.
