The Western Disturbance which was giving rain over Jammu and Kashmir has now reached the western part of Nepal. It has already started raining in western Nepal and now the system is moving eastwards. As the weather system moves across Nepal, it is likely to affect Kathmandu and neighbouring areas.
As predicted by Skymet's Meteorology Division in India, inclement weather conditions continued to prevail over Nepal yesterday. But despite this, search and rescue operations were carried out in the region. The Indian Armed Forces, in complete cooperation with the Nepal Army, was able to execute several crucial rescue operations in Nepal yesterday.
Currently, Kathmandu is experiencing fairly good weather conditions which are conducive for carrying out relief operations. But then, it’ll be a short-lived window for rescue teams as more weather activity is expected in the region. Moderate to heavy isolated rainfall may hamper rescue operations later in the day. These conditions are expected to prevail over the region for the next two days or so.
As the region continues to receive intermittent rain over the next few days, carrying out relief and rescue operations will be a daunting task for relief teams and workers stationed in the region. The death toll in Nepal has already crossed 5000, with hundreds of people feared buried, especially in remote areas. Overcast conditions with fragmented rainfall activity will pose a serious challenge to Nepal’s road to recovery.
