Updated on April 28, 2015: Missing Hyderabad techie Poodata Neelima has been traced and is completely safe. As per the Twitter handle of WeRamblers, the company which has organized Neelima's trip, Neelima is safe and is currently on the way to Lukla with the rest of the group. Neelima's parents have also been informed about her location and safety.
Neelima had gone missing after Nepal earthquakes triggered an avalanche on Mount Everest base camp.
April 27, 2015: A Hyderabad-based mountaineer, Poodata Neelima, is reportedly missing near the Everest base camp. Hundreds of climbers were left stranded on the world’s highest peak due to an avalanche triggered by Nepal’s massive earthquake.
Neelima is a software engineer by profession and had left for the challenging trip on April 21. She was part of a 21 member team of climbers from across the country. Neelima’s father, Sowraiah, was able to get in touch with the Bengaluru Mountaineering Association on Saturday. He was informed that Neelima was safe but was not able to get in touch with his daughter.
Indian Air Force helicopters are flowing in and out of Mount Everest, airlifting stranded climbers in multiple sorties. Neelima’s father also said that Neelima had told him that they had been experiencing snowfall but a proper connection was never made.
Neelima is a multi-talented techie based in Mehdipatnam. She is a polyglot who is well-versed in six languages. As per her father, Neelima can speak English, German, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Bengali. Also, the Hyderabad techie is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and a yoga practitioner.
More than 1,000 mountaineers were left stranded at the base camp due to the avalanche. Shocking images and videos of the avalanche have been shared across social media platforms. Some 17 bodies have been recovered from the Everest base camp making it the worst-ever disaster on the mountain.
