Southwest Monsoon has been vigorous over Andhra Pradesh, giving good rains over the state. Nellore in Andhra Pradesh has also been recording moderate to heavy rainfall for past 48 hours.
In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, the city has recorded 55.3 mm of rain breaking the 10-year-old record of 53.5 mm.
Nellore has recorded 187 mm of rain so far and with this, it has surpassed the monthly average rainfall of 91 mm. Moreover, it has also broken the record of highest rainfall in September during last 10 years, which stands at 121.6 mm of rain in 2006.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, a trough is extending from Andhra Pradesh up to the cyclonic circulation over extreme southern parts of Tamil Nadu across Telangana and South Interior Karntaka. This system is primarily responsible for causing the rainfall activity over Nellore.
The trough will continue to prevail over the region for some more time and will keep oscillating from east to west. Good showers will continue for next two to three days over the city and all along the well-marked trough line.
