Nainital, Mussoorie, Shimla, Manali to witness good Monsoon rains

The hilly region of Western Himalayas has witnessed heavy rains in the beginning of August. The intensity of rains was so much that it led to incidents such as landslides, flash floods and cloud bursts which eventually led to the loss of lives. The intensity of rains has comparatively reduced over the states of Jammu Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

During the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday, widespread moderate rain was recorded in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand with isolated heavy over the adjacent plains. Scattered light to moderate rain was also observed over Jammu and Kashmir. As per Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the southeasterly winds which are increasing moisture over the hilly regions. though the axis of Monsoon trough is running via North Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and a fresh western disurbance which is approaching North Pakistan and adjoining areas.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, Jammu witnessed 6.4 mm of rain and Katra 2 mm. In the same span of time, Nahan recorded heavy rain of 92.4 mm, Dharamsala 47.2 mm of rain,  and Una 25.2 mm. Meanwhile, Manali witnessed light rain of 13.2 mm, Sundernagar 6.3 mm and Kullu 2.4 mm. While many places in Uttarakhand witnessed light to moderate intensity of rains. Pantnagar witnessed 38.2 mm of rain, Nainital 8 mm, Haridwar 7.8 mm, Dehradun 6.2 mm and Mussoorie 5 mm of rain.

Due to the fresh western disturbance over North Pakistan, rainfall will increase and scattered light rain will occur over Jammu and Kashmir meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will continue recording light to moderate rains with one or two isolated heavy spells also for the next 24 hours.

During the weekend also rains moderate rains will occur over the hilly spots of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh hence it is advisable to take few precautions before heading towards the hills as incidents of landslides may occur over Nainital, Rishikesh, Manali, Shimla, and Mussoorie.
